Does energy healing actually work?
It depends what "work" means, and this site refuses to blur that. As relaxation, ritual, and contemplative practice, many people find these traditions genuinely valuable. That is a subjective outcome you can test for yourself at low cost. As medicine, the honest summary is different. Controlled research has not shown effects beyond placebo and relaxation for practices like reiki. That is why we describe them as practice and culture, never as treatment. Both statements can be true at once, and sites that hide the second are selling you something.
What do the chakras actually refer to?
It is a framework from Indian contemplative traditions. Tantric and yogic texts describe energy centers. Modern Western practice adapted them heavily into the familiar seven-chakra rainbow system. The seven-chakra model most Westerners know is a modern synthesis, not a direct ancient inheritance. And it is a meditative map, not an anatomical claim.
What should I actually buy to start?
Very little — and this from a site with affiliate links. A meditation cushion, if you sit regularly, and perhaps a singing bowl or quality recordings if sound practice appeals. Skip anything sold with healing promises for specific conditions. A crystal is a beautiful object and a meditation anchor.
