Why cover this at all, then?
Because millions of people practice these traditions and the internet offers them a false choice: credulous marketing or contemptuous debunking. There is a third register — the one good anthropology uses — that takes practice seriously as practice. Relaxation, ritual, attention, and community are real goods; describing them accurately does not diminish them, and does not require pretending they are oncology.
