Why cover this at all, then?
Because millions of people practice these traditions, and the internet offers them a false choice: credulous marketing or contemptuous debunking. There is a third register, the one good anthropology uses. It takes practice seriously as practice. Relaxation, ritual, attention, and community are real goods. Describing them accurately does not diminish them, and it does not require pretending they are oncology.
